Brett Andrew Strange is a former US intelligence Officer. He is the author of two novels, Beneath the Purple Dawn and Against the Dusk, and Encounters: Six Short Stories. Strange has traveled to more than two dozen countries as part of the research into the events and characters that appear in his writing. He has lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and currently calls San Francisco home.
The Paul Drake book series is a celebrated series of contemporary espionage novels derived in part from the author’s prior experience as a US intelligence officer. Kirkus Reviews lauded Strange’s debut novel, Against the Dusk, published in 2021, as “a frenetic indulgence for fans of espionage adventures” and an “accomplished political espionage thriller.”
Strange’s sequel, Beneath the Purple Dawn, picks up the saga a year later in a book that Blue Ink Review dubbed a “thrilling, well-executed tale of international espionage.” Blue Ink writes that the story “globetrots from the deserts of California to the deserts of Syria, from posh avenues in Paris to the ancient streets of Malta, with the action tense and urgent throughout. Employing taut, clean prose and a tightly woven plot, Strange tells a story worthy of the big screen, showing a grasp of global geopolitics as well as fighting tactics, weaponry, and the intelligence world.”
Eastern Lights, the third in the series, begins at the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and is scheduled for publication later in 2023.
